UCHSK School Holiday Fun Facts!

Hi all - missing school?  Here are some fun facts to help pass the holidays, and keep you all in touch with the school you all clearly love and miss so much!

  • The tune that we use as the school 'bell' to tell students to change classes or go to lunch is the opening riff from 'Bittersweet Symphony' by English band The Verve.
  • The song was released in 1997 before any of our current students were born (and yet doesn't seem at all that long ago to most parents and staff members, right?)!
  • Bittersweet Symphony made it onto the top ten of Triple J's Hottest 100 in 1998.
  • The song has a five note orchestral riff in it, sampled from Rolling Stones song 'The Last Time'.
  • The Verve handed over all royalties and rights to future royalties for their song in an out of court settlement with ex-Rolling Stones manager, Alan Klein, rather than go to court with the show biz bigwig, when he tried to sue them for using more than the five notes agreed on.
  • The Verve always maintained that they never used more than they agreed on.
  • They also lost control of the usage of their own song...which is possibly why we are able to use it as our school 'bell'.
  • Bittersweet Symphony was sung on Triple J's Like a Version on the last Friday of Term 3, by Triple J Unearthed band E^st and it was excellent!
  • Singer, Mel, of E^st is 17 years old and was born in the year the song came out.
Interesting right?  Do continue to have a great break - we look forward to seeing you back relaxed and happy on Monday 12th of October!
