UCHSK Rock Band Rules!

Some of the participants in our Rock Band Program joined Musician in Residence, Aron Lyon, and our Chaplain Naomi playing for the C3 Block Christmas Party, last Friday Night. Aron had the opportunity to talk to the 350 people present at the event about the positive effect he has seen it have on the students involved.

C3 Minister, Nick, said he got a lot of great feedback about the music from the group, and also lots of great support for the program from donations made on the night, resulting in a fantastic donation of $1500 to go towards continuing the program!

The Rock Band Program has become a popular part of our curriculum and definitely a large part of how we get together as a school. We have seen quiet and shy students evolve with confidence to be singers and musicians, and then seen them use that confidence in other areas of their schooling.

Aron's Rock Band Program runs at $50 a term for students, and in that time students spend about half of the time getting workshopped with instrumental tuition, and the other half, they use these skills and learn how to work with each other in a band. We are very lucky to run such a great program, and even luckier to be a part of the journey as we watch the students become confident musicians. Who knows where they can take these skills!
