Those who remember the drama room up until late March of this year, will recall mirrors and murals, dance barres and a large, deep stage with alcoves running off and many external doors. With all the use it has been getting for Drama, Dance and Circus, it was decided it was well due for a makeover.
GSO Robert was kept very busy from late March until first week this term and after 4 months the Drama room was finally put back into use for its first class yesterday.
Renovation of the Drama Room (the nitty gritty details):
- The concertina doors on stage were removed.
- The stage framework was broken down board by board and removed.
- All carpeting was removed.
- Doors and steps to the back of the stage boarded up and turned into a storeroom.
- New duct work cut for more effective heating and cooling.
- A new stage management area reconstructed around the electrical box.
- Walls prepped for painting.
- Up to 2 base coats painted, before 2 coats of black paint over the whole wallspace.
- New flooring put down (Pulastic 2000 by Aura Sports).
- And finally once all the work was completed, the lights flipped out and electricians had to come in for 4 days, rewiring the entire room.
The new Drama space is magnificent, and provides many more adaptable opportunities for physical movement of any sort. Mr Barry is already giving his students tasks in Drama to learn to make use of the vast space and light in their work.
Ask your kids if they've used the new Drama room yet and what they think of it.
