We would like to thank all the families who help out over
the holidays, looking after the animals. We greatly appreciate all the effort and care that
is given.
While we acknowledge that the weather at the moment has been
beautiful it has not been very good for growing pasture. No rain means no
growth. We would like to assure all families that despite this, the goats are being taken very
good care of and are being hand fed Lucerne and a 'complete goat pellet', twice a
day. So we would ask our UCHSK families to discourage community members from
throwing things over the fence to the goats to eat as this can make them very
ill.
If families would like to supply food for the goats they are encouraged to
provide bags of apples, carrots and bananas to the science staffroom and we
will make sure they get them in a controlled safe environment. Our 4 month old
kids are now ready to wean and head to new families so they may make some noise
as we separate them from their mothers but don’t be alarmed they will be fine
and if anyone has land available and is interested in starting a small herd of
goats please feel free to contact the science staffroom for details.
This term we will be starting a weekly session with
Maribyrnong Primary students from years 3 and 4. Every Monday afternoon
they plan to come and visit the farm and work with the years 7 and 8 and
hopefully help us raise some ducks. We look forward to keeping you up to date
on how these visits go.
