Today UCHSK was very fortunate to have two calves delivered to the school as part of the Cows Create Careers Farm Module.
The Cows Create Careers Farm Module is a six-week program that aims to increase the awareness of dairy industry careers funded by Dairy Australia and industry sponsors in a very hands-on way. High school students have the responsibility of rearing two calves onsite at the school
Tracey Lloyd, Dairy Australia’s Industry Capability Program Manager, reports that the program builds awareness of dairy industry careers – from teaching students about educational and vocational pathways, to profiling the diverse range of professional careers in the dairy industry and students have fun learning about the different skills they need to learn to work in the dairy industry.
We are fortunate to be one of 9 high schools participating from the Central NSW region, and this is our second year being involved in the very popular Cows Create Careers program.
Robin and Tony brought 2 six week old calves from her farm in Tilba and went through their initial care with the students and from this afternoon, the calves are in the care of students (with staff support) and come ready to be named and prepared for our cold Canberra winter with their own jackets. Needless to say, they are incredibly cute and will form their own fan-base pretty quickly.
Thank you to LSA Nick Kelly for the photos!
