Farewell Girls

Our adorable calves, Mini (a Holstein) and Chelsea (an Illawarra Shorthorn) leave us on Monday - having fulfilled their Cows Create Careers contract time with us.  The girls have become very popular and, as a result, are very cuddly and happy for a scratch.

Over the last few weeks the students have had to:
  • Bottle feed them, morning and night
  • Provide other nutritonal requirements with pellets, hay and fresh water
  • Measure and weigh them daily
  • Maintain daily observations on general health and behaviour
  • Clean their housing shelter weekly and ensure comfortable, clean and well insulated bedding.
Essentially the last few weeks with us has been a weaning period from the calves mothers. Now they are ready to progress onto a nutritional solids program, so Robin will be coming to collect her future dairy cows and return them to her farm in Tilba. UCHSK students (and staff) will be sad to see them go, but have learned a lot from this Farm Module.  We can expect to see a Moooovie, a MooTube video, a powerpoint or a 3D model from the students which they are expected to create present to Dairy Australia as part of their project.

Goodbye Girls, and Good Luck!
